Vicki Cleere

June 18, 1963 — April 14, 2022

Odessa

Our beloved Vicki left this earth on Thursday, April 14, 2022, and joined the Redeemed in Heaven. She passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, and too soon at age 58. She was born in Big Spring, Texas on June 18, 1963, to Bobby and Pattie Phillips. The family moved to several towns in West Texas eventually landing in Odessa, where her father pastored Vine Baptist Church for over 30 years. Vicki was always involved in ministry and serving others: teaching Sunday School, playing piano, serving in Vacation Bible School, and custodial duties. Her passion was teaching little ones about the love of Jesus. She taught and prayed for hundreds of children over the years. She especially loved children’s choir where she taught the little ones about worshiping Jesus.

Vicki married Jeff Cleere, her High School sweetheart and love of her life on August 6, 1983, and they enjoyed 38 years of marriage together. She was affectionately known as “Vicki Lynn” and “My Beloved” by Jeff.  Vicki & Jeff were blessed with two wonderful sons, B.J. & Aaron, who she loved deeply. They truly were the apple of her eye. She loved being a mother. Vicki was truly a wonderful supportive wife. Even when Jeff felt called into full time ministry in 2002, she supported him, despite having said she would never marry a preacher. She was the perfect partner in ministry and life with love, grace, wisdom and kindness. She also supported Jeff in all his “hobbies” from mountain biking, camping, backpacking, snowboarding, motorcycling and even bungee jumping.

Vicki worked for the State of Texas for over 30 years. Retiring in 2013 to stay home and take care of Aaron, which lead to her association with The House of the Sycamore Tree. Beginning as a board member and eventually becoming the Executive Director. She loved working with these special young adults, teaching them life skills, social skills, and about Jesus and His love for them.

Vicki loved to sew. Her and several ladies from Chapel Hill Baptist began a sewing ministry with the proceeds going to help the House of the Sycamore Tree. She was on a first name basis with the sales team at the local JoAnn’s.

Vicki loved people and she loved serving them. Her love for God drove this great love. “No” was seldom in her vocabulary. She will be missed by many that she encountered and that she loved through the years.

Vicki is preceded in death by her father Bobby Phillips and father-in-law B.J. Cleere, Sr. and sisters-in-law Deborah Allen and Cindy Phillips. Those left to carry on her memory are husband Jeff Cleere; sons B.J Cleere III and wife Ashlyn, and Bobby Aaron Cleere. Mother Pattie Phillips, brother Wes Phillips and wife Julie. Mother-in-law Georgia Cleere, brother-in-law Freddy Cleere and wife Karen, sister-in-law Nelda Jenkins and James Fields, brother-in-law Roger Cleere and wife Lu. Thirty nieces and nephews and 29 great nieces and nephews.
