Mr. Taylor died Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born on September 17, 1938, in Clarendon, Texas, and he has two surviving sisters, Carolyn Brewer and Linda Floyd.
Mr. Taylor was a resident of Clarendon for several years before he moved to Seminole, Texas, when he was 12 years old. He also lived in Tatum, New Mexico, until moving to Odessa, Texas, in 1962, where he resided until his death. He said he would always live in Odessa, Texas, until his death, not because of its scenic beauty, aromatic smells or proximity to flowing waters. But, because of the people of West Texas which he said were always the nicest people on God’s green earth.
Mr. Taylor loved his family and friends and spent his life devoted to many West Texas businesses. He owned or partnered in the following businesses: H & T. Auger Co., T &T Bit Co., H&T Bit Co., Cable TV of West Odessa, Tom’s Quick Stops, Tom’s Western Wear, Trux-N-Parts, S & L Uniform, Andrews County Ford, Cedar Cove Development at Lake Spence and several others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Roy Taylor and Velma Iva Taylor, and brother Roy D. Taylor.
Surviving family members include daughters, Glenda Sly with grandchildren, Jason Sly, Stephanie Sly, Gwendolyn Sly and one great granddaughter, Eliza Sly; daughter, Kayla Turney with grandchildren, Alexandra Mazur and Nicolas Mazur; stepdaughters, Deanna, Debbie (Winder) and Dana (McClendon) with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Taylor’s youngest son, Thomas Taylor Jr. with grandchildren, Thomas Taylor III, Jonathan Chase Taylor, Levi Cache Taylor and Sage Josephine Taylor.
The services for Mr. Thomas Taylor, Sr., age 84, are scheduled to be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 1:00PM with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. A family graveside service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022, in Clarendon, Texas.
