Odessa

Stella Ann (Bucy) Shinn, aged 88, of Odessa, TX, passed away on November 16, 2020 in Odessa.

Ann, to her friends and family, was born in Henderson, TX to Willie Ann and James Emerson Bucy during the Great East Texas Oil Boom, on August 28, 1932.  She spent most of her childhood years in Wink, living on the Lion Oil Company camp.  She graduated from Snyder High School in 1950, having only attended her senior year there.  She attended Texas Technological College, where she met her husband to be, Calvin Wayne “Sonny” Shinn.  They married in 1952 and began their life together farming in Hockley County. After severe drought drove Sonny to the oilfield, the family moved many times, first to Colorado during the Denver Basin Boom, then on to North Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, as well as a short stint in Brazil.

The family eventually settled in Odessa, where their two younger sons graduated from Permian High School, in the early 1980’s.  She was a devoted wife and mother, taking great pride in supporting her family.

All her life, Ann was an avid craftswoman and artisan, painting, knitting, sewing, and embroidering all manner of objects of art.  She gave freely of her time to family and friends, creating many memorable keepsakes and gifts for birthdays, holidays, and simply out of love and friendship.  Her legion of friends, too many to list individually, stretched across the Great Plains, and especially her beloved oil patch.

Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Sonny; her son, Jay; granddaughter, Jillian; her brother Billy, and sister, Donella.

She is survived by sons, Kim and wife, Nan; Kurt and wife, Robin, and their sons, Zachary and Jacob; grandsons, Keaton, Hayden, Christian and their mother, daughter-in-law, Shara.

Memorials in the form of charitable donations may be given to Home Hospice of Odessa.  Ann’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff of Home Hospice of Odessa and St Joseph’s Home Health.
