Russell Lee Rumbaugh, 83 of Odessa, Texas passed away June 24, 2021.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Sterling Parsons officiating.
Russell was born August 22, 1937 in Pecos, Texas to William and Alice Rumbaugh. Russell attended Odessa High School where he was a stand-out defensive end for the Bronco’s and received All-State Honors his sophomore year. After graduating from Odessa High School in 1956, Russell joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton for 2 years until 1959. Russell returned to Odessa, Texas, and married Ann Stormes on September 2, 1960. They had three children, Billy, Lawanda, and Rhonda. Russell worked in the vending industry and oilfield supplies before retiring in his 50’s. Russell loved fishing and camping with family and friends. As most will remember, Russell had a competitive nature, he rarely missed an opportunity to instruct on the strategies of dominoes and cards with family and friends. Russell was very active in all his kids and grandkids activities, attending the full array of sports they all participated in. He was a life-long member of First Christian Church of Odessa.
Russell is preceded in death by both parents, brother Bill Rumbaugh, sister Wanda Hatch, and sister Betty Meeks.
He is survived by his three children, Billy (Peggy) Rumbaugh, Sissy (Jacque) Rumbaugh, and Rhonda (Bobby) Jones, sister Ann Criswell, sister-in-law Carol Rumbaugh; grandchildren Brittaney Rogers, Steven (Megan) Jones, Ryan (Noemi) Rumbaugh, Rylee (Alex) Ramirez, Lindi (Blake) Bridges, Lauren (Dano) Gray, Lacey (Micah) Hurt; eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Madison Medical Resort for the care they gave Russell during his short stay and a very special thank you to Star Hospice, Cindy Roach, Barbara Norris, and Dr. Slaughter for their guidance, compassion, and care.
