Patricia Slaughter

January 20, 1941 — November 9, 2022

Fredericksburg

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Fredericksburg, Texas, Patricia Slaughter went to be with her Lord and Savior, after battling a lengthy illness.

Pat Slaughter, best known as “Nan,” was born in Philipstown, Illinois on January 20, 1941, to Charles and Wilma Winkelman. Growing up in Southern Illinois, she was always known to be social and full of life. She loved watching her brothers play sports and was a cheerleader at her high school. Some say she never gave up her days as a cheerleader. As a child, she accepted Christ and was baptized in their local church.  After graduating high school, she met and married the love of her life, Ron Slaughter. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Texas where they spent the majority of their life together. It wasn’t long after she married Ron that they welcomed Dana and Craig into their lives. If you knew Pat, then you would know that Dana and Craig were her greatest accomplishments. The next years were filled with play dates, piano lessons, baseball games and church activities. As they grew, Pat decided to attend cosmetology school and re-entered the workforce in her early forties. For Pat, cutting hair wasn’t just a job, it was a ministry where she really got to know people. She would spend hours listening to people’s stories, laughing, and cutting up. Many of her clients and those she worked with became some of her lifelong friends. Some of her happiest days were chasing grandkids, cheering at ball fields, decorating her house for the holidays, and spending time with family. Her smile was contagious and her faithfulness to friends and family was something to be admired.

Those preceding her in death are her father, Charles Melton Winkelman; her mother, Wilma Miller Winkelman, who died in a house fire when Pat was eleven months old; her second mother, Edith Hart Winkelman; and brothers, Charles (Sonny) Winkelman and Gregory Winkelman.

Pat is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank Rondall Slaughter; brother, Robert “Chuck” Winkelman, and his wife, Bobbie; sister-in-law, Nita Winkelman; daughter, Dana Slaughter Reynolds, and her husband, Ricky; and son, Craig Rondall Slaughter, and his wife, Amy Alston Slaughter; grandchildren, Logan Reynolds and his wife, Jordan, Austin Reynolds, and his wife Hailey, Shae Slaughter and Sydney Slaughter.  She was also blessed with great grandchildren, Lane and Dru Reynolds, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Pat’s greatest joy was her family and the time spent with them.
