Leon Lafette Fowler, 99, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021. He was 20 days shy of his 100th birthday.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 22, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brantly Fowler officiating.

Leon was born near Boswell, OK to Ray Victor Fowler and Lou Evy Taylor Fowler on October 31, 1921. He married Inez Roberta Coble on November 8, 1946. He cherished their marriage for over 68 years.

Leon was proud to be an American. He was a veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. South Dakota in the U.S. Navy. He received numerous awards and honors during his forty-one months of service, but never learned to swim.

He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He immediately began work with Texas Electric and retired in1986 after 37 years.

Leon attended Sherwood Church of Christ in Odessa, TX for over 50 years while serving as a deacon or elder for the majority of those years.

Leon fiercely loved all things family. He treasured his children and every generation thereafter. Leading by his Christian example, Leon encouraged his family to always do their best in everything. His motto was “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”

Leon is preceded in death by his wife, Inez Fowler; son-in-law Randy Sellers; brother, Cleburne Fowler; sisters, Mary Ellen Hickman, Edna Kelsey, and Eunice Peaton; grandson, Nicholas Lee Christian Fowler; great-grandchildren, Faith Megan Thomas and Andrew Connor Cochran.

Leon Fowler is survived by children, Alta Jo Williams (Richard), Norma Jean Sellers, Judy Terhune (Bob), Ray Fowler (Christy), and Dale L. Fowler (D'Nese); one sister, Rubye Saville; as well as 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Home Hospice of Midland.
