Lawrence Leo Barber, Jr., age 82, of Odessa, TX, passed away December 13, 2020 in Odessa.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 8, 2021at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1415 Grandview Ave., in Odessa, TX, with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment to follow at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 8, 2021 at Monahans Municipal Cemetery, 400 S. Helen, Monahans, TX  79756.


Lawrence was born June 26, 1938 to Lawrence Leo Barber and Daisy Helen Barber (Wood) in Seagraves, TX. He attended school in Seagraves, TX where he played football as a quarterback, halfback, and linebacker. He graduated from Seagraves High School in 1956 then attended Texas Tech University where he played two seasons as a member of Tech’s first Southwest Conference recruiting class. As a sophomore and junior, he was a left handed pitcher on the Red Raiders’ baseball team and held a school record for striking out 15 opposing batsmen in a single game.

After graduating from Baylor Law School in 1962, Lawrence spent the first six years of his career in Seagraves then worked in Odessa for 18 months. From 1970-1979, he worked in Monahans where he served as the district attorney in 1974-75.

He married Helen Irene Adams (Muldrow) on February 16, 1980 in Las Vegas, NV. Lawrence returned to Odessa in 1980 where he practiced law from 1980-2020. He received headrights as a member of the Osage Indian tribe. Lawrence was a 32nd degree Mason and past president of the Rotary Club of Greater Odessa.

Lawrence L. Barber, Jr. is preceded in death by Helen Barber, wife, Christopher Howell, grandson, Lawrence Leo Barber, father, Daisy Helen Barber (Wood), mother, Paul Barber, brother, and JJ, Ace, and Joker, his West Highland White Terriers.


He is survived in death by Debra Barber Howell, daughter, Larry Wayne Barber, son, Lisa (Barber) and Frank Koontz, daughter and son-in-law, Jeffery Agnew, grandson, Kaitlin and Nate Perez, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mateo Perez, great-grandson, Robert and Carol Ann Barber, brother and sister-in-law, Mike Barber, nephew, and Jaxon, his West Highland White Terrier.

Memorials may be given to Breast Cancer Research and Odessa Meals on Wheels.
