Odessa

Jose Maria Banuelos, age 72, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Graveside Services will be limited to immediate family at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Father Chavez of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

Big Joe was a good father and grandfather—setting many meaningful examples in his lifetime for his children. Jose was a voracious reader and his desire to learn, and then to teach others what he had learned, was a driving force in his life. He believed with all his heart that teaching others was God’s calling for him and he devoted much of his life to this divine cause. Joe was determined and he was a fighter throughout his life. He was a lifelong learner with plenty of grit to get him from GED to bachelor’s degree.

At only 5 years old, “Chema” helped his mom run their family’s shop. As an adult, Big Joe was a hard worker and active in the community most of his life. Jose gave his best for over thirty years working at the General Tire plant, starting as a Lab Tech and ending his career there as a Quality Assurance Lab Supervisor. In his later years, he dedicated much of his time and energy being a devoted care giver for his wife, Magda Banuelos. Fare thee well, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend. Thank you for touching so many lives and thank you for your lifelong devotion to family, friends and community service.
