John Douglas Miller went home to be with his Savior on October 29, 2021, in Odessa, Texas. Funeral Services and burial will be held November 5, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Roller of the Glenn Meadows Baptist Church of San Angelo officiating. Scott Cotton, the Praise Minister of the same church, will assist.
Doug was born January 11, 1952 in Amarillo, TX, the youngest of four children born to Joe Jed Miller and Joyce Carr Miller. Jed and Joyce had two sons and two daughters. Doug graduated from high school in 1970 from Permian High School in Odessa and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock and then joined the Army during the Viet Nam Conflict where he received the Outstanding Soldier award during his military basic training. After he served his country, he received a degree in Geology from The University of Texas at the Permian Basin where he was a geologist for many years. He then became a financial advisor with A. G. Edwards and later with Raymond James.
He was a member of Sons of the Confederacy and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a cowboy through and through. He loved all animals and especially loved to feed the deer, turkeys and neighborhood cats.
He was baptized when he was a teenager. His faith in Jesus Christ carried him through his trials and physical limitations, and he never lost his faith.
He is survived by his two older sisters, Jennifer Cochran of Odessa and Bonnie Baker and husband Alan of Keller; nieces Whitney Cochran of Abilene and Erica Cochran of Lubbock; niece Jenny Baker Nicola and husband David of North Richland Hills; niece Angie Baker Bixby and husband Peter of North Richland Hills; nephew Beau Baker of Keller; nephew Danny Miller and niece Kara Miller both of Midland; sister-in-law Debbie Miller Tyson of Midland and many great nieces and great nephews and cousins along with many lifelong friends who will miss him greatly.
Pallbearers will be Peter Bixby, Johnny Mills, James Albright, Olan Maney, Raymond Nabarrette, Tom West, and Houston Hendrix. Honorary pallbearer is Keith Crowder.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Jed and Joyce Miller and an older brother, Joe Jed Miller, Jr (Jody). He was a Christian, a cowboy, a financial planner, and a friend to everyone. A life well lived, Doug.
