Jerry Corbell

December 7, 1953 — June 20, 2022

Odessa

Jerry Wayne Corbell, 68 years old, of Odessa Texas, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, peacefully, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by family at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas Texas.

Jerry was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Joe Thomas Corbell and JoAnn Dodds  Corbell on December 7, 1953.  He attended schools and both Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, Texas, in 1971, and remained a MOJO fan, that carried season tickets to football games.  In 1972 through 1973, Jerry served in the United States Marine Corps.  Although he did not receive any awards or medals while in the Marines, he still held this as an honor to be able to help serve our wonderful country. Jerry was an exemplary employee with Dunlaps Department Store for many years.  He was a salesman in the Men's department and did shipping, receiving, and stocking.  After Dunlaps went out of business, he decided to try his hand at being a transportation associate with McDonald's. He decided very quickly that he absolutely loved it and the people he had the pleasure of working with daily.  While employed at McDonald's, he was awarded as Employee of the Month.  Upon retirement from McDonald’s, he was presented with a lanyard by the franchise owner and management to cherish for the rest of his life.  This lanyard was special to him because not just anybody received one.  He could present this lanyard at any McDonald's within the Permian Basin and receive free food for himself and one guest at any time.

Services and arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, July 1, 2022.  A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Dr Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Smile because he Lived
You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him,
or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn back,
or you can do what he would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
