J.B. "Bull" Price

July 16, 1932 — January 10, 2021

Gardendale

JB “Bull” Price gave up the good fight on January 10, 2021 at his home in Gardendale, Texas with his loved ones by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Bull was born in Seymour, Texas to Mollie Lela and Hunter William Price on July 16, 1932. He attended school until the oilfields lured him to West Texas. At the age of 13 he hopped a freight train and rode the rails to his future.  Bull began work as a swamper when the boss man of a trucking company gave him his first pair of steel-toed boots. He stuffed them with wads of newspaper so they wouldn’t fall off. By the age of 16, he was driving the truck instead of swamping. Bill Britt of Britt Trucking won that truck in a poker game, but he said Bull had to come with it. Thus, was born a lifelong friendship.

He married his first wife, Oconee Jones, and she gave birth to a son, Jabo Brawslin Price. After Oconee’s death, Bull went on to marry Peggy Laurene Smith. He also acquired two daughters, Peggy Jean and Kimberly Ann, in the bargain.

Bull loved working in the oilfield and being the boss. But he also loved kids and animals and tractors. When the little girl down the road would come to the door and ask for someone to come out and play, she wasn’t looking for any of the three kids, she was looking for Bull. And if he saw a stray animal out on location, he would bring it home to the zoo. He had a heart as big as the Permian Basin and never turned away anyone in need.

Bull is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, his daughter, Peggy Jean Kelley, and his eleven siblings.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Swann (Jerry) of Odessa, Texas; and son, Jabo Brawslin Price (Denise), also of Odessa. He is survived by his one remaining sibling, Dan Price of Clovis, New Mexico; as well as four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be: Rocky Kelley, Blaine Price, Chance Price, Ramiro Grajeda, Jesse Vargas, and Candelario Murrillo.

Many thanks to the nurses of Home Hospice for keeping Bull comfortable in his final days, and special thanks to his two wonderful aides, Kelly and Elizabeth. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Maria Garza, Janice Palmer, and Yolanda Sanchez who went over and above the call of duty in helping to care for Bull at home. There truly are angels among us.
