Edward Mcanear

July 8, 1942 — April 24, 2022

Odessa

Edward Newton McAnear, 79, of Odessa, passed away on April 24, 2022, in Odessa, Texas, with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness.

Ed was born in Jacksboro, Texas, on July 8, 1942, to Faine Newton and Cora (Kate) McAnear. He attended school in his hometown of Jacksboro.

Ed moved to West Texas in 1973 where he continued his career in Oilfield Services for over 50 years. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and the fellowship of the other members. He took immense pleasure reminiscing with his brothers, sisters, and other family members on the home place, where he loved playing dominoes and cards. He loved the country life, spending many years growing vegetables and raising chickens. He was determined to bring and keep his country lifestyle into the city. You rarely saw Ed in something other than his overalls and white t-shirt. He was always in his element outdoors surrounded by nature. He was a self-taught wood worker, fisherman, competitive card player, but received his fulfillment surrounded by his family and friends sharing stories. Many people crossed Ed’s path throughout the years. He never met a stranger. He was known as Uncle WaDoo and Daddy Mac to many of his nieces, nephews, and friends of his children. Ed, our beloved husband, Dad, Daddy, Pop, Grandad, PawPaw will be dearly missed.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Robyn.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen; sons, Richard, Rex and wife, Keila, Revis and wife, Margie, Michael and wife, Lindsey; daughter, Amanda and husband, Andrew; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laverne Bailey, Fran Leatherwood and husband, Paul, Sharon Johnson and husband, Roger, Jan O’Shields and husband, Danny; brothers, Joe McAnear and wife, Vickie, Paul McAnear, Tim McAnear and wife, Cathy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his son’s Rex, Revis, Michael; son-in-law Andrew; and brothers, Paul and Tim.
