Obituary

Dorothea Jean (Forehand) Hix Howell, age 89, passed from this life Saturday, September 24, 2022, in Midland, TX.

Dorothea was born on May 24, 1933, to Burgess and Maye Forehand in Haskell, TX. She married Leroy Hix on July 15, 1950, and enjoyed 43 years of marriage, until his death on December 30, 1993. Dorothea married James Howell on November 25, 1996, until his death on August 7, 2021.

Dorothea was affectionately referred to as “Lady” by her parents and extended Forehand family and “Dot” by Leroy’s family. She lived her life as a Christian and was a longtime member of Eisenhower and Sherwood Churches of Christ in Odessa.

“Lady” was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love language was cooking and making sure nobody left hungry. She enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays, and everyone looked forward to the delicious food she prepared. “Dot” loved sports and enjoyed following her sons as they participated. Dorothea served as the secretary of the Football Booster Club for Permian High School. She worked at Odessa Christian School and taught children’s Bible classes at Eisenhower Church of Christ. In 1974, she was employed by ECISD until her retirement in 1997.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Hix of Georgetown, TX, Terry Hix and wife, Becky of Bryan, TX, Gary Hix and wife Vickie of Lubbock, TX, and Jerry Hix and wife, Lynn of Odessa, TX; step-children, Debbie Wheeler (Paul) of Lubbock, TX,  Van Howell (Ronelle) of Lubbock, and Nancy Crow (Kenny) of Abilene; one brother, Chet Forehand (Jeannie) of Haskell, TX; along with ten grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
