Brenda Mchaney

July 29, 1944 — April 14, 2021

Odessa

There is an appointed time for everything.  And there is a time for every event under heaven – A time to give birth and a time to die; Brenda McHaney was born into time, the daughter of Rex Lee Carlile and Joyce Branch, July 29, 1944 in Waco, Texas; she had no siblings.

She passed from this life into heaven on April 14, 2021.  Scripture says there is a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance.  When a Christian passes from this world, the family rejoices and offers thanks to God; they escort the body with song and thanksgiving as if she were setting out from only one place to another.  Believers who are gone before are Not Lost to us; they are only waiting at the eastern gate of the Golden City.  It is folly to think of escaping this earthly cross of death, which has been laid in our path.  When death comes into a family, it ought to reform what is amiss.  Earthly things are made bitter to us, so that heaven may become dear.

Brenda Carlile McHaney married Jerrell McHaney on June 22, 1962, at Highland Park Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas.  Brenda is survived by her husband, Jerrell McHaney; and her son, Rex McHaney and his wife, Mary of Amarillo, Texas.  Brenda and Jerrell moved to Odessa in May 1964.  As a young married woman, Brenda worked outside the home as a bookkeeper, also in the legal field.  Her love for photography and horses was unsurpassed only by her love of Jesus Christ and studying his word.  She became a child of the King, June 1981.  From that point on she fixed her eyes on Jesus, and her prize of eternity in heaven.  She left all things behind, and she pressed on toward the mark and the prize of the high calling of God.  Brenda believed in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, buried, and her Jesus rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father.  Brenda believed in the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of her sin, the resurrection of her mortal body, and life everlasting.  She believed that the only Good thing in her was the Spirit of the Living God.  The most precious gift she was ever given aside from her marriage of 60 years, was her eternal life in Christ.  As her family and friends search for understanding with her passing from this life, we should all remember, “The Lord’s Mercy often rides to the door of our heart upon the black horse of affliction.  Yet you do not know what your life will be like when you pass from this earthly journey.  You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.  Indeed, God made her days as handbreadths, her present time was nothing before him; her life in its best state, was but a vapor.  The Son of God is not a vapor.   He is solid reality, with no beginning and no ending.  His name is Jesus Christ.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.”  We all exist forever.  There is no use protesting that we did not ask to be born.  That was not an option.  Brenda and God were both in the universe to stay- either as friends on His terms, or enemies.  ‘Which would it be was decided in her earthly life.  And her life has only been a vapor.  Two seconds, and she was gone- to heaven to be with her Lord.  For those of you who love Jesus, Brenda will wait for you beside the Eastern Gate.  Where -All the tears and sorrow of this life will be left behind.  What is done in Life- Echoes in eternity.
