Bonnie Stubbs

April 4, 1938 — January 15, 2023

Odessa

Bonnie Sue Stubbs, 84 of Odessa, Texas, died peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 20, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Dan Holbrook officiating.

Bonnie was born in Carlsbad, Texas on April 4, 1938, to Larkin and Eva Jones. Bonnie graduated from Water Valley High School.  She attended business college and worked as a secretary for a radio station in San Angelo.  Shortly thereafter she moved to Odessa where she worked for KOYL country music radio station as the station secretary.  Many of her favorite stories to share were those of up-and-coming country singers such as Roy Orbison who would stop by the radio station to promote his latest new record as well as Waylon Jennings who also worked at KOYL.

Bonnie’s real niche in life came from working with children and educators.  She retired from the Ector County School District after 33 years of service, as the school secretary at San Jacinto Elementary. She was a beloved, hard-working employee whose smile could light up a room and fill everyone’s heart with laughter and love.

Bonnie’s greatest pride in life was her two children, Charles Stubbs and Marcia (Marcy) Tombosky, her grandchildren Zach Tombosky, McKenzie (Stubbs) Cook, and Morgan Stubbs.  She was blessed with two great granddaughters, Channing and Kali who brought a smile to her face and put a light in her eyes.  Her children, grandchildren and great granddaughters were her life, she loved them dearly.  Bonnie also always had a very special love for her pets. And we must not forget her unwavering love for Rafa!!!

Bonnie held a strong Christian belief in volunteerism and in sharing her gifts and talents with others.  She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, Bee Friends Quilting Group, Interfaith Sewing Circle, and ORMC Auxiliary.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Larkin and Eva Jones; brothers, Clarence and V.M. (Nub) Jones; and nephew Ronald Jones.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Charles Stubbs (Barbra) of Midland; daughter, Marcy Tombosky (John Woodworth) of Odessa; grandson, Zachariah Tombosky of Odessa; and granddaughters, McKenzie Stubbs Cook (Kolton), and Morgan Stubbs of Midland; and two precious great granddaughters, Kali and Channing Cook, as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals in Midland or the ORMC Auxiliary in Odessa.
