Barbara Duke

On the morning of April 22, 2021 Barbara passed into the hands of our Lord.

Barbara was born in Odessa, Texas on May 23, 1955 spending her life there. Barbara has had many lifelong health issues and a stroke recently claimed her life.  She struggled with balance as her body wobbled and shook, forcing her to use a walker to assist in her walking. While sitting with her in her hospital room this last week, I saw her looking up with a surprised look, first with wide open eyes, then her eyes squinting as if she saw something very bright. Her arm and fingers stretched out completely toward heaven, her arm was completely stable and without her normal shaking, she even lifted her paralyzed body up for a moment. I am convinced what Barbara saw; I leave it to others to speculate what they think she might have saw.

Left to cherish the memory of our sister are Charles & Norma Duke of Odessa, Tx and Donald & Karen Duke of Longview, Tx. Barbara was the lone sister of three brothers, so she was spoiled more than she should have been. Barbara also had several nephews and nieces as well as their children.

The last several weeks, Barbara spent several hours a day reading her Bible. It was difficult to attend Church, so she watched two different Church Services on TV every Sunday.

Preceding her in death was her father, Robert Duke; mother, Mary Louis Duke; and brother, Mitchell Duke, all which are waiting with open arms to welcome her to heaven.

Barbara's health issues are finally healed. Walkers, wheelchairs, and doctors are no longer needed. She can walk on her own.

A celebration of her life and her new home in Heaven, will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.

Visitation will be 6 PM to 8 PM, Monday, April 26, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Her funeral will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 also at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor John Van Hoose officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
