Wanda Edell Shugart

Wanda Edell Shugart (Grandma) 91, passed away peacefully on Friday April 5,2024 in Odessa, Texas.  Born November 2, 1932, in Miller’s View, Texas to Mary Jane Turner and Elmer Brown.  She had 1 brother R.V. Brown and a sister Nelda Brown-Clements.  Wanda grew up in the Eden and Brady area of Texas. She married Clyde J. Shugart August 15, 1950, and together they had 2 children Teresa Shugart -Fuentes and Clyde R. Shugart. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and daughter. 

 Wanda leaves behind a large family who will miss her greatly. She is survived by her son, Clyde Shugart and wife Anne; their 3 daughters, and families. Marcy and Donnie Raney and daughters, Charlotte, Cadyn and Camryn. Kari and Chaz Coffman and daughters, Haven and Maizy Halldorson, and Megan and Matt McPherson and children, Payce and Elle. 

She also leaves behind her daughter Teresa’s 3 children and their families. Trey and Lucy Trainor and children, James, Abigail, Patrick, Mary Katherine, Charles and Andrew. Laura Trainor and daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Koy Richardson, and Tom and Jennifer Trainor and children, Brandyn and Tommy.

Wanda had a fun and sharp sense of humor. She enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, dominos and “The Wheel of Fortune”. She could fry fish better than anyone around and was the best at crossword puzzles. She held many fish frys in her large and shady backyard. In her younger years she worked at Bill Sears, Women and Children’s Hospital and retired from Odessa Internal Medicine where she had worked many years in the Insurance Dept. Wanda and her husband shared the gift of friendship and service to many people over the years. She was always up to an adventure and shared many with her family and niece Carmen Lightfoot and daughter Teresa. 

She was a member of First Methodist Church Odessa. She will be missed by friends and extended family, including The Lightfoot, Brown and Ponder families. 

Services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jody Wallen officiating. A burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
