Wanda Lyle Payne, born in Carlisle, TX on June 23, 1931, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She left behind a family that loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Gene Payne and her parents, Marvin and Bonnie Prindle, her two sisters Fern Wagner and Elizabeth Timms.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Jeanine Trantham and her husband Joe, son Mark Payne and his wife Pam, daughter Teresa Speer and her husband Duane, daughter Ginger Sharp and her husband Marc. She also left behind eight grandsons, five granddaughters, nine great grandsons, and seven great granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister Lora Meier and her brother John Prindle.
She grew up in Seagraves, TX and later earned an associate degree in business from Waxahachie Bible College. After marrying Billy, they settled in West Odessa where they raised their children and built a life together. Over the years, they started many businesses together including Payne's Workshop, The Antique Barn and West Texas Cable Company. She also turned her passion for gardening into a small business growing and selling plants in the community.
Wanda was known for her delicious hot rolls, apple butter, and the homemade birthday cakes and pies she lovingly made for her family. A talented and generous crafter, she sewed quilts for each family member and crocheted afghans for every grandchild upon their high school graduation. Her faith was a guiding force in her life. She cherished reading her Bible and found joy in playing the piano at church and at family gatherings.
After selling the cable company, Wanda and Bill spent the next 20 years building a ranch on the Brazos River near Mineral Wells, tending to the cows and enjoying their friends, family and grandkids.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM July 1, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Garden Funeral Home.
Funeral services, officiated by Pastor David Fowler will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa, Tx.
