Thurman Morris Shaw, Jr. of Odessa, Texas passed away July 30, 2026 at his home after a recent cancer diagnosis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Taylor Robles of Sherwood Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset. Morris Shaw was born June 13, 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas to Thurman and Cordelia “Ruth” Shaw (McMurry). He completed school in Fort Worth and graduated from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in 1960 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was a registered professional engineer in Texas. After college, he took a commercial and industrial sales job with Humble Oil & Refining. In 1967, he became a sales manager for the Texas Electric Service Company in Fort Worth, where he married Sarah Isabell Ellis (Lane) Jan. 20, 1968. Morris was promoted to Power Sales Manager and transferred to Odessa in August of 1971. The couple and their daughters then moved to Odessa. In 1976, Morris got his real estate license and went to work for Murphy & Rochester, Inc., an insurance and real estate firm where he helped develop and sale land to local builders. In August of 1987, Morris opened Morris Shaw Schools of Defensive Driving which provided driving instruction to thousands of teens and adults in Ector County for two decades. After the death of Sarah, Morris married Martha Lancaster in 1994. Morris worked for the City of Odessa in multiple capacities including Solid Waste Superintendent, Household Hazardous Waste Coordinator, and multiple boards and commissions. He was also active in service organizations, and volunteered with the United Way, Lions Club, Keep Odessa Beautiful, and others. A faithful Christian, Morris was a member at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ and Sherwood Church of Christ.

Everyone who knew Morris knew how much he enjoyed tennis, fishing, hunting, traveling, reading, painting, carving, bowling, cycling, card games, working in the yard and working out. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dana Shaw and great granddaughter Alyra Hill. He is survived by daughters Kimberly Manno and her partner, Ernesto Valderrama, Terri Vaught and her husband, Randy, and Deanna Hoerauf and her husband, Ryan; step-daughter Susan Hill and her husband, Alan; grandchildren Alan Vaught and his wife Kara, Kyle Vaught, Megan Vaughan, Michelle Stum and her husband, Dustin, Lauren Arrington and her husband, Carson, Lizzy Beecher and her husband, Tom, Garret Manno, Lindsay Shaw, Hunter Hill and his wife, Caite, and Garrett Hill. Morris also has 10 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Alan Vaught, Kyle Vaught, Garret Manno, Grayson Snapp, Jagger Vaught and Dean Vaught.
