Thelma Steele

Oletta Steele, 91 of Odessa, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland, Texas.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, on Thursday, December 1, 2022.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Dr.  Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Oletta was born in Ponta, Texas, July 11, 1931, to J.D. and Vera Hazell Bynum.  She graduated from Rusk High School in 1948.  She married Ivy Joe Sanford in 1950 and was widowed in 1968. She then married Don Steele in 1970 and remained married until his death in 2000.  She was a very accomplished tailor/seamstress throughout her life. She and Don were very active in West Texas Car Clubs traveling to car shows and weekly gatherings with their friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Steele; sister, Zuyleen (Sue) Bruno; and brother, Ray Bynum.

Oletta is survived by her son, Joe Michael “Mike” Sanford; her daughter, Iva Lita “Ivy” Steele and her husband, Dennis Dunlap; her brother, Lee Bynum, and his wife, Irene; grandchildren, Oleta Schranz, Tommy Sanford, Matt Sanford, JonMikal Mosher and his wife, Emily, Sierra Sanford, Shelby Dunlap and his wife, Linda, numerous nieces and nephews and 9 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be JonMikal Mosher, Shelby Dunlap, Dennis Dunlap, Tommy Sanford, Cory Bynum and Jared Cotton.
