Sylvia "De De" Anita Roe

November 14, 1932 — July 26, 2024

Odessa

Sylvia "DeDe" Roe went home to Jesus on Friday, July 26th, 2024, at the age of 91.

DeDe was born to August and Ethel Schulte on November 14, 1932, in Granbury, Texas, the youngest of five children. DeDe was blessed to grow up in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and cherished her childhood days on Council Creek in Burnet County.

She married the love of her life, Wayne Roe, on June 9, 1951. They moved to Odessa and lived there throughout their marriage. DeDe was an astute businesswoman and spent many years working as a bookkeeper in Odessa. She later managed the car sales lot for Hertz Rental Cars and was the only female car salesperson in the area at that time. Later she worked in the appliance department at Sears where she made many dear friends.

DeDe was a woman of faith and a great prayer warrior. Her best friend was Jesus, and she spent every morning in fellowship with our Lord, praying, and writing in her journals. She was the church secretary at Chapel Hill Baptist in Odessa for several years. After moving to San Antonio to be near her family, DeDe was a member of and taught Sunday School at Castle Hills First Baptist Church. Later, after moving to Boerne, Texas, DeDe was a member and Sunday School teacher at Boerne First Baptist Church. She also led a Ladies bible study at Park Meadows in Boerne.

DeDe was a very creative person. She wrote beautiful poetry. Anyone desiring to read some of her poems can go to dederoe.wordpress.com. She also loved to paint with oils and acrylics, creating many beautiful paintings, especially landscapes, to gift to friends and loved ones. She also loved to challenge her mind and enjoyed working on the most difficult crossword puzzles she could find. Her greatest joy was cherishing her 4 grandchildren.

DeDe is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Roe; son, Gary Roe; parents, and siblings Arthur Schulte, Alton Schulte, Martha Larance, and Ruby Ellett. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith; son-in-law, John Smith; and grandchildren, Hunter and Shelbi Smith and Christine and Brandon Roe.
