Susan Meador

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan “Susie” Friel Meador, 76, of Odessa Texas announce her peaceful passing at her home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, after a short illness.

Born on June 15, 1947, in Derry, Ireland, she is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edward and Mary Friel.

Susie was the wife of the late James Hugh Meador, whom she married on April 11th, 1970, in Derry Ireland. He preceded her in death on December 1, 2001.

She is survived by her stepson, Robert R. Meador (Donna) of Mechanicsville, MD; her beloved sisters, Mimi, Kay, Phyllis and Marty.

 She is preceded in death by her beloved sisters and brothers, Grace, Edward, Sophia and James. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews. One of Susie's greatest joys was returning to her homeland, Ireland, to visit her siblings, nieces, nephews, and childhood friends.

She made many wonderful friends in Odessa and was blessed to have them in her life. “What she suffered she told but few, she did not deserve what she went through. Tired and weary, she made no fuss but tried so hard to stay with us. As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall, of a face so full of sunshine, and a smile for one and all. So, rest in peace, dear loved one, and thanks for all you have done. We pray that God has given you the crown you have truly won.”

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Odessa on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden of Memories. Father Francis Onyekozuru will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Midland.
