Steven Wayne Cooke

Steven Cooke died at home on Saturday, August 5, 2023. He was born to Derald and Thelma Cooke in Coffeyville, Kansas on June 12, 1941.

His family moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1951 and graduated from Boulder High School in 1959. High school activities included basketball, track and tennis.

Steve married Diana Kammerlohr in 1960 in Boulder. They moved to Canoga Park, California during which time they had two children. The family moved to Fountain Valley, California in 1963 to be closer to construction work. In 1966, Steven went to work for Shell Oil Company. He worked a number of jobs in Personnel and Industrial Relations while going to college at night. In 1972, Steven obtained his B.S. Degree in Management from Woodbury College in Los Angeles in 1972 and was transferred to Shell’s Anacortes Refinery in Anacortes, Washington. In 1979, steven was transferred to Shell’s Odessa Refinery at which the time he took responsibility for the Employee Relations function. During the next 15 years at Odessa, Steven continued in his Employee Relations role in addition to supervising the refinery training function. He also became a member of the location Management Team.

Steven’s primary hobby was golf. He also enjoyed maintaining the house, lawn and cars.

 

Steven Cooke is survived by his son-in-law, Dean Maltsberger, of Midland, Texas; granddaughter, Cambrie Holguin and husband Dustin of Midland, Tx; grandson, Keegan Cooke and wife Gloria of Lubbock, TX; his great granddaughter, Annabelle Cooke of Lubbock, TX; great grandson, Brian Carl of Lubbock, TX; his brother, Gaylon Cooke and wife Bert of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Terry Cooke of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law, Virginia of Spokane, Washington; and brother-in-law, Robert Walker of Hendersonville, North Coralina.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Diana Cooke of Odessa, TX; son, Brian Cooke of Odessa, TX; daughter, Trace Maltsberger of Midland, Tx; brother, Donald Cooke of Palmdale, California; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Cooke of Canoga Park, California; brother-in-law, Josh Park of Spokane, Washington; and sister-in-law, Lynda of Hendersonville, North Carolina.

 

According to Steven’s wishes, no funeral service or memorial services will be held for him. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home of Odessa. To send condolences to the family please sign his guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.
