Socorro Chavez Meza, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14th in Odessa, TX, at the age of 88. Socorro’s life was a testament to love, faith, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Born on August 13, 1937, in Pecos, TX, Socorro grew up surrounded by family and faith. It was in Pecos where she met and married Arturo Munoz, with whom she shared four sons. In 1968, they made Odessa their home. Socorro worked for Texas Instruments and later Levi Strauss, but her most treasured role was as a devoted homemaker. She had a warm, welcoming spirit that naturally drew people to her.
Known for her infectious laughter and love of conversation, she brought happiness wherever she went. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment with her sons, grandchildren, and her nine brothers and sisters.
A faithful member of Iglesia de Cristo, Socorro’s strong belief in Jesus Christ guided her life and was a source of comfort to her and her loved ones.
Socorro is survived by her sons Joe Munoz Sr., Danny Munoz (wife Josie), and Dr. Rick Munoz (wife Georgina); her grandchildren Joe Jr., Pamela, Michael, Arturo III, Diana, Steven, Matthew, Christopher, and Nadya; 9 great grandchildren; and her sisters Bertha and Mary.
She is preceded in death by Arturo Munoz Sr.; son Arturo Munoz Jr.; daughter-in-law Celia Munoz; parents Anastacio and Cristina; brothers Gabriel, Benito, and Juan; and sisters Anastacia, Lidia, Pole, and Isabella.
The family of Socorro Chavez Meza would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time
