Shew Moon Mar

Shew Moon “Jack” Mar of Odessa, TX, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023. 

After immigrating from Baisha, China at a young age, he made a life for himself starting in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  He enjoyed time with friends out in the outdoors fishing and hunting, and began his lifelong love for cooking and the restaurant business. 

Opportunities later arose for him in Topeka, KS, where he worked at the Red Dragon Chinese restaurant and later married, Choi Keun “Susie” Mar in 1971.  The restaurant business later brought him to Odessa, TX where he worked along side with family at the Moon Palace Chinese-American restaurant.

Outside of the restaurant, he enjoyed watching movies, playing games and watching sports and sporting events.  For those who knew him, he was kind-hearted, generous, and always thinking of others.  After retiring from the restaurant, he continued his passion of cooking, gardening, and ventured in to baking delicious treats for many to enjoy.

He is survived by his sister, Yuet Ming Ma of Hong Kong, China, his son, Danny Mar, daughter-in-law, Melissa Mar, and grandson, Jasper Mar, of Lubbock, TX.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Choi Keun “Susie” Mar, and his son, Billy Mar.
