Russell Richardson

Russell Wallace Richardson was born September 23, 1936, in Owensville, Indiana, to Melvin Guy and Edna Lillian McClellan Richardson.

Russell Richardson, age 86, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2023.

At age 18 Russell enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

He spent most of his four-year enlistment at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba, with some of that time on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ticonderoga.

On January 14, 1960, Russell married Lydia Pearl Trout. Russell and Lydia went on to have four daughters: Sharon, Cynthia, Lisa and Vicki.

After serving in the Navy, Russell and his wife Lydia settled in Odessa, Texas.

In 1960, Russell began working for the Ector County Independent School District in maintenance, specializing as a locksmith.

Russell retired from the Ector County Independent School District in August 1984, after 25 years.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, walking, woodworking, and keeping up with Texas Rangers baseball, golf and horse racing.

Russell is survived by his daughters, Sharon Foster, Cynthia (Brent) Brownfield, Lisa (Joe) Little, Vicki (Chip) Benton; sister, Priscilla Hall in West Salem, IL; five grandchildren, Bradley Dunn, DeAnna (Ben) Hurst, Bron Foster, Joseph Little, Brandon (Megan) Sobotik; three great-grandchildren, Camille Brack, Audrey Hurst, Brody Hurst; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Preceding Russell in death were his parents, Melvin and Edna; his wife, Lydia; brothers, Benjamin W. Richardson, Hollis W. Richardson, Eddie R. Richardson, Steve Richardson, Jimmie R. Richardson; sisters, Marjorie L. Guller, Madge L. Searles.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Father Ben Hurst will be officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
