Ruby Lee Davis Bagley, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on October 19th, 2026.
Ruby (AKA Mamaw) was preceded in death by the love of her life of 60+ years, James Lloyd Bagley and her parents Dayton A. Davis and Clara Lee Lewallen Davis; three brothers, Dalton, Doyle and Alton; three sisters, Audie Mae, Aline and Nettie Ruth.
Ruby AKA Mamaw and “RUBAHLEE!” is survived by two children; Jimmy Bagley and wife, Mariann, and also Sherry Kerby and husband, Mike. She was blessed with and survived by four grandchildren; Andrew Kerby and wife, Chelsea; Justin Bagley and wife, Ashton; Sam Gonzalez and wife, Rachel; Alyssa Anderson and husband, Carlton and 2 step grandchildren Kelly and Ashley. As if Ruby wasn’t blessed enough, she is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Jessie, Wiley, Ella, Tres, Eden and Everett as well as several step grandchildren that she cares about deeply. Ruby holds dear to her heart ger two surviving sister-in-laws, Betty Davis and Judy Davis as well as Cousin Leta Caston.
Ruby married her High School sweetheart, James Bagley, on December 23rd, 1960 in Sweetwater, TX. For several years she was a stay-at-home wife and mother. She babysat to help make ends meet. She learned to macrame and oil paint and later in years she learned to draw pencil sketches for some of her grandkids. Later in our lives she shared stories of struggle and lean times but as children growing up, we never realized it. Mom and Dad kept arguments, disagreements and concerns behind closed doors. As their children, we always had everything we needed, and she always had a hot dinner and a tall glass of milk waiting for Dad when he came home from a long day’s work.
Eventually, while we were young, Mom went to LVN nursing school. She worked as a nurse until she retired, and she always put a smile on her face and she sparkled for her patients, but she loved her home and her family more than anything. When we were bored or spirits were low, we would hear a knock at the front door and it would be her dressed up all silly just to bring back some cheer. She also loved to put on the Texas Tornados or the Beach Boys and we would all dance the blues away. She was a caregiver from the time she started walking until her soulmate passed away. She was always there to take care of her family when they needed her, and she fought for us when she didn’t feel we were treated right. She also comforted and celebrated many people with cards, German chocolate cake, fudge, banana pudding and eclairs.
Ruby was liked and respected by many and took pride in herself because she wanted to represent her family well.
Ruby was saved and baptized at the age of 12 in a little church in Roby, TX. She said she felt she knew Jesus even before that and talked about a cold December night as a barefooted child at home gazing at the starts knowing that her Jesus was there.
For her 80th birthday, her family and friends were able to throw her “the best party I have ever had.” She marveled at the fact that even her great grandchildren kept this surprise party a complete surprise for a month. She was also surprised that more than 80 people thought she was worth them showing up for. If the people, presents and food weren’t enough, the Mariachi Band surprised and delighted her all over again.
Today we celebrate her life. She missed her love and was homesick for her family and now she is home.
We are all walking each other Home.
