Ruben "Chuby" Canava

Ruben “Chuby” Canava, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away on August 30, 2025.

Visitation will be from 2-8pm, with a rosary to start at 7pm, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, September 8, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Bernard Getigan officiation. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lydia Molinar, sisters Isabel (Chavela) Salgado, Sulema Lopez, Gracie Gonzalez, brothers Martin, Albert, and Johnny Canava, and brother-in-law Angel Vasquez.

Ruben is survived by his wife Paula “Polly” Canava, children Nick Canava (Jodi), Dante Canava, Elizabeth Canava, Serena Carrasco (Jason), and Lorina Lira (Fabian); siblings Rose Vasquez (Austin), Ismael Canava (Garland), Rebecca Lascano (Amarillo), and Hector Garcia (Odessa); 12 grandchildren Dominique, Dante Jr., and Jaycee Canava, Jaelynn, Javen, and Jeric Carrasco, Fabian Jr, Frankie, Ariyana, Aaryn, Fenix, and Alana Lira; 2 great grandchildren Aiana and Adeline Carrasco.

Pallbearers will be Nick Canava, Dante Canava, Jason Carrasco, Javen Carrasco, Jeric Carrasco, and Fabian Lira Jr.
