Robert Troy Joiner went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
Troy was born in Monahans, TX to Jean Squyres and Robert J. Joiner on July 13, 1959. The family moved to Odessa shortly thereafter, where Troy grew up and attended school. He graduated from Permian High School in 1977. After graduation, Troy became a police officer with the Odessa Police Department, where he held positions as Motor Officer, Persons Detective, Commander of the Auto Theft Task Force, and Traffic Patrol Sergeant. He retired in 2011 with 34 years of service.
From 1986 to 1990, Troy served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX before doing a tour of duty with the 110th MP Company in Germany as a Sergeant. After his retirement from OPD, Troy worked for ECISD where he was currently employed as a Police Officer on the Nimitz Middle School Campus as well as being a Field Training Officer.
Troy loved sports, and between 1997 and 2005, was a member of the Permian Basin Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials. Troy also loved cooking the perfect bar-b-que, motorcycling, RV camping, and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Robert Joiner, his daughter Sara Joiner and a brother Russell Joiner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, La Nita of Odessa; daughter, Kayla Scott (Jeff) of Odessa; sister, Cindy Tipton of Chester, Virginia; stepson, Chris Tucker; stepdaughter, Sarah Tucker of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Azreal Alvarado, Shane Johnson, Cade Parks, Kynlee Scott, and Rowan Scott.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, September 10, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Odessa.
