Robert Elwin Winn

Robert Elwin Winn, affectionately known as Bob and Grandpa, passed away in Hobbs, NM on January 26,2026. He was born on March 19, 1941, in Eureka, Kansas to Clarence E. Winn and Emma Jane Winn.

Bob attended high school in Canyon, Texas, graduated in 1959 and later attended college at West Texas State University. He attended college until he was drafted into the United States Army in March 1964. He served two tours in the Vietnam War, moving up in rank to later become Captain. He received numerous medals during his service, including the Combat Infantryman, National Defense Service, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Vietnam Campaign with 60 device, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Four overseas service bars, and most importantly, the PURPLE HEART. He was honorably discharged in 1973 after his unit’s helicopter took on enemy fire, and he was seriously wounded. Being in the Army was his greatest accomplishment.

After his discharge from the Army, he went back to college, later graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. From there, he started a career in the oilfield in West Texas. He retired from Mobile Oilfield, later to begin a second career with Conoco-Phillips, retiring in 2004.

He married the love of his life, Maudie Johnson, on October 6, 1999. They were married 26 years and were inseparable.

Bob loved golfing, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Longhorns, and wearing his Army Veteran hat, but most of all he loved his family. He found great joy in spending time his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons, David Whitaker, Randy Whitaker, and Jeff Winn, grandson Wridge Whitaker, granddaughter Megan Whitaker, brother Bruce Winn and sister Marilyn Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maudie Winn; 3 daughters, Neicie McAdams (David), Susan Winn, and Kimberly Winn; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong best friend, Carl.
