With heavy hearts and immense love, we share the unexpected passing of Robert “Robby” William Massey—our cherished son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend—who left us too soon on June 18, 2025, at the age of 24, due to complications related to a past seizure disorder.
Robby Massey was born on March 22, 2001, in Odessa, Texas, to Robert “Bobby” Wayne Massey and Heather Jean Massey. A proud graduate of Lubbock Christian University, Robby found his professional home as an Assistant Golf Pro at Lubbock Country Club, where he cherished his LCC family.
He attended Midland Christian School, where he helped lead the golf team to their first-ever state championship as a sophomore, finishing sixth individually—a feat he never let anyone forget (with a grin, of course). Robby had a magnetic love for sports and competition of all kinds. Whether cheering for the Texas Longhorns, watching the Dallas Cowboys almost win with his dad and papaw, or heading to Texas Rangers games with family and friends, he brought energy and laughter everywhere he went.
He was the kind of guy who could remember his golf score from years ago and the layout of every course he played. His humor—often hilarious, occasionally questionable—was matched only by the size of his heart. He adored his nephews, was quick with a joke, and always down for a round of golf or a good comedy special.
To know Robby was to know joy, kindness, and the unmistakable sound of laughter echoing across a fairway.
Robby is preceded in death by his father Bobby, his papaw Bill Massey, uncle Kyle Staloch, grandmother Judy Hampton, great grandmothers Leona Collett and Beth Sonnenberg, and Uncle BD Massey.
Robby is survived by his mother Heather Massey; sisters Megan Vaughan and husband Bubba, Michelle Stum and husband Dustin, Lauren Arrington and husband Carson; grandparents Nancy Massey, Gigi Brown, Gene Hemphill and wife Brenda, and Kenny Copeland and wife Joyce; uncles Kent Copeland, Wesley Hemphill and wife Dalia, Cody Hemphill, and Dustin Staloch; nephews Grayson, Evan, Jaxon, and Walker; and cousins Sophia, Scarlett, Uziel.
Robby is loved and will be missed by his best friends: Zant “Zanto” Hollmon, Clay McCann, Davis Easley, Coy Stewart, and girlfriend Brooke Willhite.
Robby lived his life under the pride, joy and love of his devoted mother. Robby is currently playing a round of golf with his dad, papaw and uncle BD.
