Robert D. Marin, 73, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was born in Marfa, TX, to Charlie and Elfida Marin on March 15, 1952. He was raised in Odessa, TX, where he graduated from Ector High School in 1970. Robert ran track for the Ector Eagles and continued his athletic journey at Odessa College, where he earned a scholarship and completed his Associate’s Degree. He went on to serve as a Navy Diver during the Vietnam War. On April 8, 1977, he married the love of his life, Molly Gallegos. Together, Robert and Molly recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Robert later retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, proudly completing 34 years of dedicated service.
Robert had many hobbies, including playing and coaching men’s softball, dancing, playing golf, and coaching his children in various sports. In retirement, he enjoyed working on his rental properties and took pride in being a jack of all trades.
Robert was truly a remarkable man, a delightful mix of wit and warmth that made him beloved by everyone. He could turn strangers into friends with his great sense of humor. Robert was the best son, brother, husband, father, and grandpa anyone could ask for! His caring nature showed in every interaction, always putting others before himself. His love for family and friends inspired kindness, leaving a legacy of laughter, love, and lasting memories.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Elfida Marin; his sister, Leonor; and his brother, Ernest Marin.
He is survived by his wife, Molly Marin; his daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Jr. Sifuentez, and grandsons Alek and Ethan; his son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Diana Marin, and grandsons Ayden, Xavi, and Vince — all of Odessa, TX. Robert is also survived by five brothers: Charlie of Las Vegas, NV; Raymond (Delores) of Midland, TX, Raul, Johnny, and Lewis of Odessa, TX; seven sisters: Hortencia Tacker, Gloria (Johnny) Bernard both of Independence, Missouri; Lori Marin of Kansas City, Missouri; Rosa (Herman) Tijerina of Arizona City, Arizona; Virginia (Earl) Morton of Maysville, Oklahoma; Mary Marin of San Marcos, TX; and Betty (Lorenzo) Ortiz of Conroe, TX; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the medical staff at Medical Center Hospital, the Oncology team, Dr. Li and staff, Dr. Butler and staff, and Home Hospice for their care and support.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Military Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
