Robert Lomax

August 27, 1936 — April 19, 2026

Odessa, Texas

Robert Lomax, 89, passed away on April 19, 2026—and if you knew him, you know he probably cracked a joke on the way out and called it “another great time.”

Born August 27, 1936, in Lomax, Texas, to Mary Ellen Paulk and R.C. Lomax, Robert lived a full, lively, and love-filled life. He graduated from Stanton High School with the Class of 1955, and not long after, on January 10, 1956, he married the love of his life, Wanda. Together they built 65 years of marriage, three children, and a lifetime of memories that will be told (and retold) for generations.

Robert worked hard and took pride in it—whether as a pumper in the oilfield, a master electrician, owner of Lomax and Sons Electric alongside his son Randy, or during his 30 years with Getty/Chevron before retiring in 2001. But if you asked him, his greatest accomplishment wasn’t work—it was his family.

He loved fishing at Lake Amistad, though if the fish weren’t biting, he was just as happy to pack it up and head to Ma Crosby’s in Acuña. He never met a stranger, never missed a chance to laugh, and was usually the life of the party. If there was fun to be had, Robert was already there.

He was a proud President of the Howard County Rodeo Association, a loyal Mojo football fan (especially that winning 1980 season where he watched family friend Jerry Hix lead the team to the championship game), and a devoted follower of bull riding, making trips to Las Vegas for 10 straight years to watch the PBR World Finals. He truly knew how to enjoy life, and he made sure everyone around him did too.

Robert was preceded in death by four sisters and his beloved wife, Wanda. We like to think they’re back together now, laughing, and picking right back up where they left off.

He is survived by his sister Elsie, his children, and a whole crew of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry on his legacy of love, laughter, and living life to the fullest.

The family would like to thank everyone who visited and supported him over the years, and give a special thank you to the staff at Madison Medical for their care the past 8 years.

If you ever hear someone say, “Well, that was another great time!” just know Robert’s spirit is still making the rounds.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and talked about often—probably with a smile and a good laugh.
