Reata Sue Coker Pruitt, 81, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on May 29, 2026.
Reata lived life in her own way. She was intelligent, creative, strong-willed, and incredibly witty. If she loved you, you knew it. She had a sharp sense of humor and a quick wit that could catch you off guard and make you laugh when you least expected it.
She was artistic and later in life took classes at Odessa College to continue learning and growing that part of herself. She once said she felt like she had been born 100 years too late. When asked if she meant too early, she smiled and said no—she would have wanted to live on the land and work alongside her dad and brother. That fit her. She had a strength about her and a way of seeing things that was all her own. Reata also attended Bethany Christian Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life through the years.
Reata married Rudy Carroll Pruitt on May 10, 1964. They shared 62 years and 19 days together. Through every season of life, they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and showing up for one another.
She is survived by her husband, Rudy Carroll Pruitt; her son, Tracy Pruitt and wife Kristina; and her daughter, Kristi Pruitt.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kourtney Stanley and husband Landry, Kayla Blue and husband Daniel, Kami Brooks and husband Derek, Brittany Weaver and husband Josh, Brandy Oversby and husband Matt, Christian Thompson Pruitt, and Brandon Pruitt and wife Valentina; along with 16 beloved great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Dolores Robertson and Alice Cuthers; sister-in-law Mary Byford; brother-in-law Howard Pruitt; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Alfred Coker; her mother, Cecil Maurine Coker; brothers Bill Woods, Jack “Butch” Coker Jr., and Roger Coker; sister Josephine Carmen Coker; and son-in-law Dewayne “Bo” Ford.
Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Our family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Boccalandro, Dr. Bajaj, Dr. Gibbons, and the many doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for Reata through the years. Your kindness, care, and support meant more to our family than words can fully express.
Reata will be remembered for her humor, her intelligence, her strong spirit, and the way she loved her family in her own steady and faithful way. She was one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed.
