Phyllis Allene Bynum

Phyllis Allene Bynum won her battle against cancer on June 20th, 2024, in Odessa, Texas. She passed with her husband, Daniel Bynum, holding her hand as he had for the last 53 years. 

Phyllis was born in Atlanta Georgia to Amy Youmans and Allen Seibers on January 27th, 1951. She later moved to Irondale, Alabama where she studied cosmetology. Upon graduation, she began working at a local salon where she would meet the love of her life, Daniel, in 1970. They were married on June 17th, 1971, and enjoyed an adventurous life together while Daniel was in the Navy. Living in Newfoundland, Bermuda, and eventually settling in Odessa, Texas. They were blessed with 4 children. 

She was beloved by all she met, a truly remarkable woman. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Daniel Bynum; her four children, Danielle Bynum-Harrell, Christopher Bynum, Hope McKinnis, Casey Bynum; and her son and daughter-in-law, David Harrell and Sally McKinnis. 

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Amy Youmans and Allen Seibers; and her sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and Ronnie Callahan. 

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Medical Center Hospital- Donna and the 5th floor nurses and staff, Dr. Garcia and the CCU nurses and staff, with special thanks to CCU nurse Sommer and Dr. T. Patel for their unwavering dedication to Mrs. Bynum. 

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday June 27th, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The viewing is scheduled the previous evening, Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM in the Sunset Room. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Sea Turtle Inc of South Padre Island, a cause that held a special place in Phyllis’ heart.
