Peggy Sue Martin

February 4, 1937 — February 27, 2025

Midland

Peggy Sue (Newell) Martin, 88, of Midland, TX, went home to the Lord peacefully, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. A small graveside service is pending.

Peggy was born in Bonham, TX to Jake and Lucille (McGuire) Newell on February 4, 1937. She was an only child. As a young child her family moved to Odessa, TX for life in the oil patch. Peggy graduated in 1955 from Odessa High School. She excelled in the OHS choir as a standout soprano. Peggy also worked after school for several years at the Ector County Library. After high school she married H. Ron Stephens, and they moved to Oklahoma City where she earned a degree from OU. Afterward, they returned to Odessa. There, she had two sons that were the pride of her life to the day she died. Throughout her life Peggy worked in different fields as a legal secretary; held a real estate license in Texas and Louisiana; she was the office manager and part owner of John R Martin, Oilfield Consulting. Peggy was a Lutheran. She was thrilled when Pastor James Otterness asked her to help with his book which helped engrain a deep love and relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In 1979 Peggy married John Martin. She loved to travel and lived in several states and the countries of Hungary and Ukraine. She loved to go "yondering" and kept a bag packed and ready to go at the drop of a hat.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lucille Newell; husband, John Martin; and a grandson, Jake Daniel Stephens.

Peggy is survived by her two sons and spouses, Renny and Kim Stephens of Midland, TX and Dan and Sheri Stephens of Willis, TX.; grandson, Josh Stephens of Odessa, TX; and twin great grandsons, Zane and Colt Stephens. Peggy was also blessed with her very dear friend and companion, Cliff Mullis who she said, "made her last years the most content with love and care".
