Nelda Cox

Nelda "Nell" Cox, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

She was born April 5, 1938, in Kingsville, Alabama. She moved to Odessa in 1956 where she resided until 2020. She was a single mother of five rambunctious boys. She worked as a bartender at Pojo's for over 13 years, Albertsons in the bakery, as well as Dairy Queen where she was known as "Sweet Nell". She spent her free time garage selling, sewing, crafting, gardening, crossword puzzles and taking care of every stray cat that came on her porch. Her dogs Queenie, Gidget and Lady were her pride and joy. She loved coloring and drawing with her grandkids. She always had a hot meal on the stove if you were ever hungry - what a cook she was. You could always find her on her front porch watching the traffic and the hummingbirds.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ella; father, Donel; sister, Barbra; grandson, Chase; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and sons, Steve, Donnie, and Ricky.

She is survived by brother, Ronnie and Christine Simms of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; son, Mike and Lisa Coleman of Midland, Texas; son, Phillip Coleman of San Angelo, Texas; daughter Robin Carrow-Stoll of Festus, Missouri; grandchildren, Shawn, Amy, Phildon, Deidra, Brandi, Eric, Shanna, Kelli, Michael, Stephanie, Ryan, Connor, Mindy, Alan, and Bobby; and as well as multiple great grandchildren.

Her spit fire attitude, sense of humor, smile, baby blue eyes and take-charge attitude will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank James Park and the staff at Brookdale, Midland Medical Lodge and Interim Hospice for all their support and good care.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell will be officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
