Mary Courtney, beloved mother, wife, and friend, was called home to her eternal resting place on March 19th, 2026.
Mary Courtney was born on April 6, 1965, in Monahans, Texas, to Willis and Doris Kidd. She married Rusty Courtney on January 31, 1988 and moved to Odessa, Texas. Mary was a loving and proud mother of all three of her children, Rachel, Amy, and Ray. Mary began volunteering in the healthcare field before pursuing her nursing degree. She graduated from Odessa College in 2007. She served 18 years at Medical Center Hospital on 5 Central where she loved and cared for thousands of patients and their families as well as her colleagues as their charge nurse. Mary inspired an entire family of caretakers and healthcare workers as all three of her children followed in her footsteps to serve in the healthcare field. Mary truly believed in and exemplified the power of nursing and the difference every person can make in someone’s life. Mary had an unwavering belief in the power of faith and following Christ. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Odessa and volunteered for Special Olympics alongside her sister, Shelley. She loved her many fur babies and fur grandbabies and spoiling them rotten. Mary enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to the lake. She enjoyed gardening and finding opportunities to enjoy nature.
In Mary’s own words, “You never know what’s going to happen in life,” she said. “So love hard, care deeply, and be present. That’s what matters most.”
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Doris Kidd; her sister, Shelley Kidd; her mother in love, Imogene Courtney.
Mary is survived by her husband, Rusty Courtney; daughters, Rachel Hamilton and Amy Nava and husband Rainier; son, Ray Courtney; sister in love, Jena and husband Jim Townsend; nephews, Bryan Kidd and Joey Townsend; her family of nurses and healthcare colleagues at Medical Center Hospital.
