Marques Griffin, 47, of Saint Louis, Missouri, passed away on November 23, 2025, in Midland, Texas.
A Balloon Release Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on December 20, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, located at 6801 East Highway 80, Odessa, Texas 79762.
Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Shalom Church City of Peace, with Minister Anthony Jones and Minister Terrance Clark of Shalom City of Peace officiating. In accordance with Marques’ wishes, he was cremated, and this service will be a memorial. Arrangements are entrusted to Shalom City of Peace.
Marques was born on July 2, 1978, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the late Wade Griffin and Jean James. He attended Hazelwood Central High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Marques dedicated 21 years of his professional career to Chevron, where he served as top Operations Manager. Following his retirement, he founded BLAC Services, where he served as CEO, providing high-performance process solutions to numerous companies.
Marques had a deep love for the community in which he was raised and was passionate about developing young Black professionals. In support of this mission, he established the Terry Buchanan Scholarship Award at Hazelwood Central High School. Throughout his life, Marques received multiple accolades and awards recognizing his leadership both in the workplace and within the community.
Marques cherished his family and friends and was often the connection that brought people together. Whether through cooking multiple Thanksgiving turkeys, organizing family gatherings overseas, or simply reaching out to offer guidance and encouragement, Marques consistently showed up for others. He was a loving father, a strong leader, and a deeply respected man whose presence will be profoundly missed. Marques was a long time member of Shalom City of Peace, Church Without Walls (Houston), and Crestview (Midland).
Marques Griffin is survived by Micah Griffin (son), Arnold Cozart Jr (brother), and Jean James (mother), aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
