Polly Hernandez, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Polly was born on October 22, 1933, to Felipe Gonzalez and Maria Gallegos in Navajo, New Mexico.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, Mariano Hernandez, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before Mariano’s passing in 1999. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, and joyful gatherings.
Polly dedicated many years to her work as a housekeeper, touching countless lives with her kindness and cheerful spirit.
A devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, she was active in the Lady Altar & Rosary Society (LARS). Polly also led the Cleaning Angels for many years and contributed her time and talents to various educational and spiritual ministries within the church.
Polly found great joy in cooking, often preparing her favorite dishes to share with family and friends. She also loved gardening and could often be found tending to her indoor and outdoor plants, which brought her immense peace and pride.
She is survived by her five children: Maggie Hernandez, Carlos (Norma) Hernandez and Junior (Patty) Hernandez, from Odessa; Lupe Garcia and Alicia (Terry) Vela of North Texas; and Lynn Verona of North Carolina; three sisters, Barbara Perez; Simona Huerta; Librada Gonzalez. She leaves behind six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Polly is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mariano.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with graveside services to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A viewing and rosary will be held on Sunday, January 25, at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset.
