Manuel Hernandez

Manuel N. Hernandez, 96, beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on February 16, 2022. He entered this world on May 6, 1925, in Walters, OK, born to Senaido and Maria Hernandez.

He is survived by his wife Margarita Hernandez; sister Ramona Esparza; brother Senaido Hernandez; daughter Elva Gonzales and her husband Jorge; daughter JoAnn Hernandez and her husband Fin; granddaughter Annette Sanchez; grandson Michael Ramirez and his wife Lindsey; grandson David Sanchez and his wife Bertha; great-granddaughter Amanda Banda; great-grandson Jeremy Sanchez; great-great granddaughter Isabelle Banda; great-great granddaughter Samantha Banda; and great-great grandson Malaki Sanchez.

Manuel and Margarita celebrated a 77-year marriage in May 2021.  Manuel served in the Army from 1945 - 1946. He was a welder by trade and later decided he wanted to be his own boss. He built and managed a neighborhood grocery store (Hernandez Handy Pack) for 29 years.

In his earlier years, he was a member of the Odessa Basin Lions Club, Mexican American Scholarship Committee, and served on several boards.  When he retired, he invested in a funeral home (Martinez Funeral Home) in Odessa, Texas.  He then had more time to devote to his racehorses.  Manuel trained his own horses and was successful at what he loved to do.

Manuel purchased a motorhome and with his wife, and sometimes grandkids, traveled all over the U.S. Having his family close was always a priority.  Manuel is loved and will always be remembered as a role model by his family and close friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, February 21, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father Bhaskar Mendem officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
