Louis (Shorty) Bertrand Sweeden, 77 years old, passed away on September 23, 2021, surrounded by his family in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will be help Tuesday September 28th from 6-8 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.

Funeral services will be at First United Pentecostal Church on 17th and Texas on Wednesday September 29th at 11 am with Pastor Terry Pugh officiating, grave side services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Shorty was born in Fort Stockton, Texas on June 8, 1944, to Fred and Lucy Sweeden. He married the love of his life, Carolyn on September 23, 1996. He worked his entire life in the Oil “Patch”. Shorty started at the bottom of the ladder and quickly moved all the way up to a drilling consultant. His talent, skills, work-ethic, and management were second to none. He was highly respected and loved by almost everyone he ever met. He was proud to have worked in the ‘Patch” and truly missed it when he retired. Shorty was a very proud Army veteran. He served for 11 months in Korea and then returned to Abilene, Texas where he helped guard top secret military missiles. He was a very proud Army Hero.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, his Son Bill Sweeden, Brother Bob and Sisters Mildred and Shirley.

He is survived by his faithful loving wife Carolyn, Brothers and Sisters, Jim and Sandy Sweeden, Dick and Mickey Sweeden, Jack, and Molly Sweeden, Louann Henderson, Juanita Ryan and Teresa and Chris Henderson. Sons Mark Sweeden and wife Cherie, Steven Sweeden and wife Karen, Daughters Dana Johnson, and husband Eric, Joaney Foster and husband David, Michelle Blackwell and husband Larry, Christi Marker and husband Lance, Sons Johnny McCracken and wife Shelly and James McCracken. Shorty and Carolyn have numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews, all of which are their pride and joys.

Pallbearers will be: Anthony Salcido, Jasper McCracken, Austin Montez, David Foster, Larry Blackwell and Lance Marker.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. The Family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Bajaj and his entire staff, and Star Care Hospice.
