Lawrence Linus Drainer

Lawrence Linus Drainer, 79, of Odessa, Texas passed away peacefully at his home January 8, 2024. Arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Gardens with visitation Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00-4:00PM. Funeral services will be held at Sunset on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 10:00AM.

Born September 7, 1944, in English Township, Jersey County, Illinois he was son of Linus William Drainer and Mildred Josephine (Tonsor) Drainer. He was a 1963 graduate of Jersey Community High School, Jerseyville, Illinois and served in Vietnam as a Specialist Class 4.  He was married to Sue Threlkeld daughter of George and Fern Threlkeld of Jerseyville for 55 years having married February 10, 1968. An employee of Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River, Illinois he earned an Associate Degree from Lewis and Clark College in Godfrey, Illinois. Lawrence accepted a position with Shell Oil in Odessa, Texas in Exploration and Production in 1977. He later transferred as a Purchaser at the Odessa Refinery.  He served as President of the Board for the Members Financial Federal Credit Union. Known for his carpenter skills he was also a keen marksman and enjoyed hunting and everything related to the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and a brother, Gary Drainer and Gary’s wife Linda Fessler Drainer. He is survived by his wife, son Anthony Todd (Julie) Drainer, daughter Sara Jane (Casey) Smith. Two grandchildren Macy Drainer, Shelby Drainer and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Drainer and Beckham Lawrence Drainer all in Odessa and two step-granddaughters, Madisyn and Camryn Smith of Lubbock.  Two brothers, James (Bob) Drainer of St Louis, Mark (Vivian) Drainer of Jerseyville, a sister Betty Thomas of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and sister-in-law Ann (Bruce) Allred and numerous nieces and a nephew. Donations in his memory may be made to the Door of Hope. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lawrence’s caregiver Maliah Tealer.
