It is with great sadness to announce the passing of LaDonna Wood Chism on May 27, 2026 in Odessa, Texas. LaDonna Wood Chism was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and amazing friend to many. She was born Jume 2, 1962 to her loving parents DeLora and Charles Wood in San Antonio.
LaDonna graduated from Permian High School in 1980. On May 15, 1982 LaDonna got married to her forever love Stan Chism. From 1995 to 2000 she started her job as a nanny for Dr. Fred and Beth Hardwick. From the moment she became a nanny she discovered her love for teaching and caring for children. She then went on to work at Cambridge Learning Center, to then later work at Odessa Christian School for several years. She then went to teach kindergarten at Ross Elementary. Her last work place was at Buddy West Elementary where she taught 1st grade.
While starting her journey as a teacher, LaDonna sought further education at the University of Texas Permian Basin. There LaDonna received her master’s degree in Arts with a major in reading. To LaDonna, teaching was not a job it was a privilege and blessing that she loved dearly. Although she had many academic accomplishments and loved teaching in a school environment, teaching children God’s word in Bible Class was the most rewarding.
LaDonna was an amazing baker, everyone loved when she would bring her brownies, cookies, and especially her very delicious cakes to any event. She also loved painting, sewing, crocheting, she was very artistic. Another activity she loved to do was go hunting and fishing at the deer lease with her beloved mother-in-law Rita. LaDonna had so many talents that she never kept to herself, she was always making many things for others. She will be dearly missed by many friends and family.
LaDonna is preceded in death by her mother DeLora Wood, as well as grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Eager, Captain and Mrs. John Wood as well as grandmother Peggy Wood.
LaDonna is survived by her loving husband Stan Chism, father Charles Wood, and brothers Charles Jr.; wife Lemy, John Wood; wife Sonia, Niece Jaqueleen; husband Dominik, great nephew Kenneth Martinez, nephews Trinidad, Devin, Shawn; wife Shellie, along with 5 great nieces and nephews, Andrew, Matthew, Damian..
LaDonna will be forever remembered as the person she was, a great example of a fighting Christian, a great wife to her loving husband, a caring daughter and sister, niece and teacher as well as a good friend to many.
Visitation for LaDonna will be Friday, June 5, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday June 6, 2026 at Eisenhower Church of Christ; 807 E. 21st at 10:00 am. The funeral service will be livestreamed on both Youtube and Facebook under the Eisenhower Church of Christ page. Burial Services will be held at Hobbs Texas Cemetery at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers to the family, please send to Hospice and St. Jude’s Hospital. LaDonna will be forever loved and missed.
