Josephine Dot Erwin Britton, 93, of Odessa, passed away on September 8, 2026 in Odessa, TX.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Jake Baccus of Mission Dorado Church officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Josephine Dot Whisenant was born in Breckenridge, Texas to J.C. Whisenant and Lillie Mae Garrett on May 17, 1933. She married Robert Earl Erwin on October 11, 1952 in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech University with her bachelor’s degree and went on to further her education at Sul Ross University, North Texas State University & University of Texas of the Permian Basin earning her master’s degrees. She worked as a school teacher & a school Liberian for 30 years. After retiring from the school system, she worked at the Commemorative Air Force as a Librarian and oral historian. While working at the Commemorative Air Force she meet and married Col. J T Britton.

She is preceded in death by J.C. Whisenant, Lillie Mae Whisenant, Robert Earl Erwin and J T Britton. Josephine is survived by her son Richard Erwin & wife Robin, her daughter Angie Kirk and husband Jimmy, her son David Erwin, her sister Marjorie (Jinx) Stokes, her grandchildren Kendra Kirk Nobles & husband John, Kali Kirk Baccus & husband Jake and Bobby Erwin and wife Kaycee, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richard Erwin, David Erwin, Jimmy Kirk, Bobby Erwin, John Nobles and Mason Kirk.
