Visitation will be from 6-8PM Monday Sep 22 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM Tuesday Sep 23rd 2025 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial.

John Richard Smith Jr. was born in Corpus Christi, TX to John Smith and Mary Horne on June 23rd 1938. He went to school at Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, TX. He married Reta Darlene Smith on June 3rd 1962 in Nueva Laredo, Mexico. He worked as a truck driver/owner operator for most of his life. He served in the Navy from 1955-1959 spending most of that time at sea aboard the USS Hornet.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Horne, father, John Smith, wife, Reta Smith, daughter, Debra Jackson, grandson, Luke Rike and son in law Tom Walters.

He is survived by his daughter Teloa Walters, daughter, Johnnie Martin and her husband Billy Martin, sister, Jean Mills, grandchildren Matt and Julia Rike, Tausha Huffty and Justin Hitt, Cody and Brandi Huffty, Jody and Emily McGee and Catherine Holton, great-grandchildren, Madison, Chloie and Chandler Rike, Matt Rike, Ethan, Bella and Ava Valencia, Shealynn Huffty, Aubrey McGee and Melody and Cassidy Holton.
