Joe McIntosh (Mac) Sanders
Mac Sanders, 49, of Odessa, passed away on June 1, 2025, due to complications of diabetes. Mac was born on September 12, 1975, in Arlington, Texas. He was the first child born to Joe Mac and Katherine (Jones) Sanders.
He became a permanent Odessa resident at the age of three and he never left. He attended Gonzales Elementary, Nimitz Jr. High and graduated from Permian High School in 1994. He then attended UTPB in Odessa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science.
Mac had a deep passion for collecting—sports cards, Hot Wheels, Legos, and all kinds of sports memorabilia. Starting around age 10, he could be found most days riding his bike to the Cloud 9 card shop, where he’d spend hours immersed in his hobby. His collections grew over the years and became quite extensive, but his clear favorite has always been his Ken Griffey Jr. collection. Mac had a reserved nature and a quiet spirit. He didn’t speak often, but when he did, his words were either deeply meaningful or unexpectedly funny. He had a deep love for his family, as well as a special affection for the many dogs and cats that were part of our lives over the years. Listening to music was another of his passions—his tastes were wide-ranging, from 90s rap to Elvis Presley’s gospel. He truly appreciated all kinds of music.
Mac is preceded in death by his uncle, Chris Sanders; paternal grandmother, Annye Joe Sanders; maternal grandparents, Paul and Arva Jones and cousin, Matthew Jones.
He is survived by his parents, Joe Mac and Katherine Sanders; sister, Aimee Sales and husband Joel of Lubbock, TX; nephews Jordi and Bryson Sales, both of Lubbock; aunts and uncles, David and Leslye Reese of Arlington, TX; Dale and Debra Jones of Odessa; Glenda Harris of Odessa and Calvin Jones of Austin, TX.
He is also survived by numerous cousins and long-time family friends, especially Mike and Wanda Brooks, who were very special to Mac.
Pallbearers include; cousins, David Bailey Reese, Chris Lacy Reese, James Chastain, Luke Jones and Ben McIntosh and Mike Brooks.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Mac will be buried with his maternal grandparents in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Cemetery.
