Joan Martinez-Burk

Joan Martinez Burk, 65 years old, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on August 12, 2021, in Odessa, Texas.

Visitations will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021, and Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 20, 2021, also at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Daniel Smelser officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Joan Martinez Burk was born on July 4, 1956, to Francisco and Rufina Martinez in Odessa, TX.  Joan married Jones Burk on March 2, 1973, in Odessa, TX.  Together they had five children.  Joan was a homemaker and enjoyed arts, crafts, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was also an amazing cook; Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays because she loved cooking and having the family together.

Joan took care of all her kids, with pride.  She was an amazing, caring, loving mother and was always there for everyone.  Joan’s heart was like a lake with a calm and still surface, and a great depth of kindness.

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be

So, he put His arms around you and whispered “Come with Me.”

You didn’t deserve what you went through,

So, he gave you rest, God’s Garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.

When I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain, I could not wish you back to suffer that again.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Jones Burk; father and mother, Francisco and Rufina Martinez; brother, Rudy Martinez; and sister, Eyvonne Martinez.

Joan is survived by her children: Cynthia (Ceasar) Ramirez, Aaron Burk, Frank Burk, Priscilla (Abdiel) Gardea, and Joshua (Erica) Burk; 26 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and siblings, Linda (Leroy) Chavez, Lydia Smart, Virginia Holmes, Lori (Joe) Whitley, Diane (Dale) Esquibal, Susie (Paul) Franco, Richard (Gloria) Sparks, Frank Larry Martinez, Sammy Martinez, Frank (Esther) Martinez.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Burk, Frank Burk, Joshua Burk, Abdiel Gardea, Sebastian Gardea, Cesar Ramirez, Rudy Ramirez, and Jonathan Burk.
