James “Jimmy Lee” Cameron, age 81, passed away Friday, July 19th, 2024, at his home in Odessa, Texas.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
Jim was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and served in the US army where he received an honorable discharge. He graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University with degrees in History and Business, and moved to Odessa, Texas with a company he was working for in the late 1970’s.
His outgoing personality and love of people motivated him and his first wife, Lois, to create their successful business in Odessa called Cameron Tools. He married Melody in 2013, several years after Lois passed. Jim & Mel met on New Year’s Eve in 2011 and the kiss ringing in the new year cinched their love. Their mutual interest in music sent them traveling all over the country in search of live concerts: Lady GaGa, JZ & Eminem, Bob Seger and many more. Working hard was Jim’s favorite pastime, but gathering with his buddies on the golf course was a close second. Mel gave in to playing the sport soon after their marriage so she could spend more time with him. In the past four years, Jim was able to enjoy time away in his home state of Michigan with family and friends after purchasing a cottage on the St Claire River. Jim had a quiet faith in Christ, loud political opinions, and a propensity to argue, these, along with his kind heart and sweet smile, will be sorely missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Melody; sister, Barbara Cardoza; nephew, Aaron Carter; and niece, Allison Martinez; and many loving cousins.
