Jemmie Ray Goldsmith, 82, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.

 

Visitation will be Friday, August 18, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Patrick Payton officiating.   A burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral home.

 

Jemmie was born in Fort Worth, Texas on January 19, 1941.  She went to school in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School.  She married James Goldsmith on July 25, 1957, in Odessa and were married until his passing in 2018.  She graduated from Texas Tech with dual degrees in Biology and Geology.  She taught Biology at Odessa Permian for several years.  Her primary role in life was being a devoted wife, mother to her son Michael and daughter Kristi. grandmother to her six grandchildren and great grandmother to her great grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church Odessa.

 

Jemmie was a kind and gentle soul, always with a smile and always with class.  Even at the end of life she thanked nurses and doctors while calling them honey.  She devoted her life to all her family, but in particular her daughter Kristi.  She was the prime example of a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.  She made everyone around her better by knowing her and being around her. She will be missed in so many ways by so many, especially her daughter and family. 

 

Jemmie is preceded in death by her mother, Jemmie Mae Mead; her sister, Georgia Mae McCall; her son, Michael Goldsmith; and her husband, Jim Goldsmith. 

 

Jemmie is survived by her daughter, Kristi Jumper (Steve); grandchildren, Kevin Jumper (Kristie), Brian Jumper (Michele), Austin Jumper (Shelby), Morgan (Goldsmith) Chapman, Megan (Goldsmith) Soto and Makalei (Goldsmith) McWilliams; great grandchildren, Hailey Rae Jumper, Henry Jumper, Maddox Jumper, Audrey Jumper, Emma Jumper, Riley Jumper, Cameran Jumper, Eli Jumper, Freyja Chapman and Theodore Soto. She is also survived by her nephew, Scott McCall (Kelli); and his children, Kelsi Mae and Corbin whom she considered grandchildren.

 

In addition, she is survived by her and the family’s special friends, Johnny and Linda McCollum of Odessa. The family extends its deepest thanks and love to both for many years of care, support and dedication.

 

The pallbearers will be Kevin Jumper, Brian Jumper, Austin Jumper, Scott McCall, Corbin McCall and Corbin McBride.

 

Memorials may be given to St. Jude or Hospice Midland.

 

The family of Jemmie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Vikram Vadyala and Dr. Raj Patel and staff as well as the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital and Hospice Midland.
